Pecha Kucha planning

Reined in proposal (Roy):

Join the dots - graphITE pencil fills in a line that completes a circuit
- makeymakey – Kyle?

Eat something to advance slide. Hot dogs
– makeymakey with a NOT gate or use a Leonardo board? – Roy?
- made this, seems to work best with a sausage roll or cucumber. banana works but is difficult to hold. (Roy, fri)

"Scream if you want the slide to change" - Pitch sensor
– max MSP – William?

Everyone on one small pressure pad - needs a certain weight to advance slide – makeymakey – Harry?

Get audience to join arms in series circuit. Connect the first and last members to tinfoil hats and connect them to a Makey Makey. Count down to a simultaneous BLINK. (or simultanous thought "Change Slide"). This will be faked, could be just realistic enough to fool some people. – Roy?

The talk could all be run through MaxMSP perhaps, for simplicity’s sake,a s William suggested, and these last ones just need an image to go with them or some sort of on screen interface to visualise what is happening?

Which would leave 15 slides for normal pecha kucha madness – could split these up between us and have basically a bunch of mini PKs within the larger PK. Would people be up for that, and talking about projects they’ve made perhaps, or other stuff related to artschool I/O/electronics/programming/installations/interaction design/open source?
Would show off the diversity of the group which is no bad thing.

Brainstorm from Wednesday 30/04/14
  • Big Red Button. Slightly over the missile launcher style.
  • Join the dots - graphite pencil fills in a line that completes a circuit - Roy
  • Light Dependent Resistor. Slide advances when in complete darkness - e.g. turn off the lights in the room
  • Frankenstein style knife switch. Maybe something like this http://www.instructables.com/id/Knife-Switch/
  • Reed switch and high strength magnet
  • Get audience to join arms in series circuit. Connect the first and last members to tinfoil hats and connect them to a Makey Makey. Count down to a simultaneous BLINK. (or simultanous thought "Change Slide"). This will be faked, could be just realistic enough to fool some people.
  • Tripwire - Infrared/LDR/Laser?
  • Smash something - pane of glass or wooden plank. Connection breaks - Makey Makey? or tinfoil?
  • Basketball. Score a basket to advance slide
  • Clap sensor - audience participation. - WIlliam?
  • "Scream if you want the slide to change" - Pitch sensor - William?
  • Click a pen
  • QR Code. Someone scans it - triggers next slide
  • Pricey but awesome. OpenBCI Use EEG to trigger a slide based on participants mood. E.g relaxed/eating something sweet/closed eyes/sudden jump.
  • T-Rex Vision using Processing. Audience must become extremely still for slide to progress. - Roy
  • Eat something to advance slide. Hot dogs
  • Bowl of water. Makey makey
  • Tilt sensor/accelerometer
  • Tweet activated - Roy
  • Seats - certain people standing up and sitting down to advance slide. Roy
  • Pool table?
  • Everyone on one small pressure pad - needs a certain weight to advance slide - Roy

In order:
  1. Intro - bog standard finger trigger into...
  2. motion controlled foosball trigger into...

Every device/machine/program we make should end up with I guess either something phsyically hitting 'enter' on the laptop displaying the presentation, or somehow sending a keypress or mouseclick to it.. [Roy]
